No rival has stepped up with a bid above the €20m mark, leaving the Bianconeri with a player they value more highly than the current market does.

That gap between internal valuation and external reality is the heart of the problem. Juventus want to protect their asset. The market is telling them something else.

All of this unfolds while Gonzalez trains under a coach who had planned to rely on him. His message, though, has not changed: he wants out, and he wants Atletico.
