Neymar's Family Company Clears Debt to Lift Santos' FIFA Transfer Ban

Santos FC have had their FIFA transfer ban lifted thanks to a financial boost from Neymar's family company, NR Sports. The firm paid off an outstanding debt of £1.7 million owed to Monaco over the transfer of midfielder Jean Lucas. This allowed Santos to resume signing players amid their fight against relegation.

Debt Settlement Ends Transfer Embargo

The Brazilian club was banned from registering new players since July due to an unresolved payment of R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m). The ban ended after NR Sports injected funds that cleared this debt. As part of the deal, Santos and NR Sports will jointly handle the marketing and negotiation of some of the club's unassigned kit sponsorship spaces.

Santos Officially Confirm Resolution

On Thursday, Santos released an official statement confirming the ban's removal. They said,

"Santos FC have settled the Transfer Ban and are once again clear to operate in the transfer market. The operation was made possible thanks to the support of NR Sports, through which the Club received an immediate financial injection. In return, Santos FC and the company will jointly negotiate kit sponsorship inventory that has not yet been commercialised."

Club Looks to Strengthen Squad

The decision came as Santos faces a deep squad crisis while managing an estimated overall debt of £13 million. The end of the FIFA embargo now allows Santos to pursue former Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, seen as a key target. According to Diario Sport, Arthur's arrival is expected to strengthen the team immediately, helping them avoid relegation.

Upcoming Challenges for Santos

This weekend, Santos will face Corinthians in a vital derby match. The club holds a narrow two-point lead above the relegation zone in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Neymar is set to return to the starting eleven after missing the recent 3-0 defeat to Palmeiras in the Copa do Brasil quarter-final first leg. Their focus remains split between overturning the aggregate deficit at Vila Belmiro and securing league points against a side led by Memphis Depay.
