Mykhailo Mudryk's Loan Move to Leeds United: Latest Updates

Chelsea have knocked back an opening season-long loan bid from Leeds United for winger Mykhailo Mudryk, but the door to Elland Road is very much still open.

The proposal from Leeds fell well below Chelsea’s demands, yet talks are ongoing and Mudryk is understood to be keen on the move. The 25-year-old has already agreed in principle to spend the season away from Stamford Bridge as he looks to rebuild both rhythm and reputation.

His career stalled dramatically after a positive test for the banned substance meldonium led to a 20-month spell out of the game. That suspension ended in July. Since then, Mudryk has been eased back into action on Chelsea’s pre-season tour under new head coach Xabi Alonso, making several appearances from the bench as he tries to claw back match sharpness.

Despite strong interest from Strasbourg – part of the BlueCo network that also owns Chelsea – and clubs in Italy, Mudryk has made it clear he wants to stay in the Premier League. That stance has pushed Leeds to the front of the queue.

The Yorkshire club are prepared to take him on loan without any option to buy, a key condition for Chelsea, who want to retain full control of Mudryk’s long-term future while shifting his wages for the season. That structure has given Leeds an edge over rival suitors.

Daniel Farke’s side have already been busy this summer, bringing in attacker Harry Wilson from Fulham, centre-back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo, goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City and defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach. A move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap had been explored earlier in the window but that interest has since cooled.

Brentford remain in the background. The Bees tried to sign Mudryk months before Chelsea beat them to his signature from Shakhtar Donetsk for an initial £61m in 2023 and still like the player, but their interest this time hinged on including an option to buy. Chelsea rejected that idea, shutting down that particular route for now.

Coventry City have also registered their interest, while a switch to Strasbourg is still being weighed up in west London. Chelsea are considering sending other players to the French club as part of that relationship, with midfielder Dario Essugo among those discussed.

For Mudryk, though, the likelihood is a move away from Stamford Bridge before the window closes. Staying put has not been completely ruled out, but all the signals point towards a restart elsewhere – and right now, Elland Road is where the story is most alive.
