Jose Mourinho has delivered a blunt message to Vinicius Jr. before the Madrid derby: forget the noise, play the game.

With Real Madrid heading into a hostile Metropolitano for one of the defining fixtures of their season, the Portuguese coach has reportedly sat down with his Brazilian star to set the tone. No distractions. No battles with the stands. No running feud with the referee. Just football.

Mourinho draws the line

As reported by Defensa Central, Mourinho has spoken directly with Vinicius about how he wants him to handle the derby against Atletico Madrid. The instruction is clear and non-negotiable: channel everything into the match, not the atmosphere around it.

The Metropolitano will be unforgiving. Diego Simeone’s Atletico are unlikely to offer comfort or calm, on or off the ball. Mourinho knows the game will be tense, emotional, and scrappy at times. That is precisely why he wants discipline to underpin Madrid’s approach, starting with one of his most explosive – and most targeted – players.

Vinicius has long been a lightning rod. Opposition fans single him out, taunting him from the first whistle. His flashpoints with referees and supporters have become almost as regular as his goals and dribbles. Mourinho wants to break that pattern in the derby.

No fights with the stands, no running commentary with the referee

Inside the dressing room, the message has been stripped down to its essence. Vinicius must avoid any confrontation with the stands and stay away from extended arguments with the referee. Mourinho believes those moments drag his forward away from his responsibilities and, in the end, damage Real Madrid’s chances.

Speaking after that match, Mourinho did not pretend his winger is flawless, but he was blunt about the treatment the Brazilian receives.

"Vini Jr. isn't a saint, but what they're doing to him is too much. It starts right from the first minute. I think it's a pattern, something that repeats itself from one opponent to the next," he said.

That context matters. Mourinho has already put himself on the front line, calling out what he sees as systematic provocation. Now he is trying to manage the situation from the inside, not just asking Vinicius to “ignore it” but giving him a clear plan for how to respond.
