Michael Olise Shines with Hat-Trick and Neymar Tribute

Michael Olise walked out of the Allianz Arena with his arms full and his reputation booming.

One souvenir was guaranteed: the match ball, earned the old-fashioned way with a ruthless hat-trick in a 7-0 demolition of Union. The player of the match award felt just as inevitable. Three goals. Two assists. Ninety minutes of total control.

Then came the surprise.

Waiting for the 25-year-old in the mixed zone was a third memento – a Neymar shirt, personally dedicated. The Brazilian had asked journalist Isabela Pagliari to deliver it to Olise during her visit to Munich. A gesture from one idol to a player who has openly named Neymar, alongside Lionel Messi and Zinedine Zidane, as one of his heroes.

Neymar, now 34 and back at hometown club Santos after the peak of his career at Barcelona, is watching his own era wind down. Olise’s feels like it is just starting.

A season catching fire

Right now, Olise is churning out elite numbers. Against Union, in just his seventh competitive appearance of the season, he was named best player on the pitch for the fourth time. His output is staggering: 11 goal involvements, averaging one every 51 minutes.

Defenders are struggling to get close. Teammates are lining up to talk him up.

Harry Kane did not hold back. “I really enjoy playing with Michael, and I also like him a lot as a person,” said the striker. “Not everyone gets to see his true personality, but he is a great character. He is completely different from how he appears to outsiders.”

Those outsiders rarely hear from him. Olise is known to be intensely private and media-shy. After his masterclass against Union, he declined a television interview with Sky. Jamal Musiala stepped in, grinning as he said: “That’s what I’m here for.”

On the pitch, though, Olise is doing all the talking that matters.

Ballon d’Or talk begins

The performance against Union did more than light up an evening in Munich. It pushed Olise into a different conversation.

Board member for sport Max Eberl went straight to the top shelf of football honours when assessing his form. “For me, Michael Olise is also one of the candidates for the Ballon d’Or. He is one of the best players in the world,” Eberl declared.

The names around him in that debate underline the scale of the claim: Kane, Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, Rodri. Now Olise is being mentioned in that company.

He left the stadium with a match ball, a trophy, and a shirt from one of his idols. The question now is simple: how long before players of the next generation start queuing for his?
