Manchester United Set to Sign Brighton Star Ferdi Kadioglu for £40m

Manchester United’s left‑back hunt has taken a sharp twist, with a sensational claim from Turkey insisting Brighton’s player of the year Ferdi Kadioglu is on his way to Old Trafford in a £40m deal.

The report, from Turkish outlet AS Marca, states United are “set to transfer” the 26-year-old Turkish international from Brighton, with 10% of the fee – around €4.7m – due to his former club Fenerbahçe. No major UK outlet has verified the move yet, but the rumour has landed at a time when Brighton appear to be closing in on a replacement in Kadioglu’s position.

Brighton, used to seeing their best assets stripped away, are already braced for a busy end to the window. Carlos Baleba is primed for a £65m move to United, with a further £5m in add-ons, while highly rated right winger Yankuba Minteh is being seriously weighed up by Liverpool, who are preparing what they hope will be a decisive third bid in the £65m–£70m range.

Yet it was Kadioglu, not Baleba or Minteh, who walked away with Brighton’s player of the year award last season. Losing him as well would be another major blow to the Seagulls’ rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi’s successor.

ESPN reported that United’s ideal scenario would be a loan with an option to buy, a structure that would protect them financially while still giving them a long-term solution.

Balde’s own stance is nuanced. He would rather stay at Camp Nou, but he is prepared to move if Barcelona decide to accept a bid and push him towards the exit. A face-to-face meeting with Hansi Flick is looming, a conversation that will go a long way to defining his role and, by extension, his future.

While those high-profile pursuits hang in the air, the Kadioglu story has surged into the spotlight. The Turkish claims stand alone for now, unbacked by the usual heavyweight transfer reporters. Yet there is a development on the south coast that adds a layer of intrigue.

Brighton are understood to have agreed a deal with Young Boys for left-back Jaouen Hadjam. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that Brighton & Hove Albion and Young Boys BSC have struck an agreement worth €12m, with additional add-ons included. Hadjam is set to sign a contract until June 2031 and is expected to fly to England within 24 hours to complete the move.

Brighton lining up a long-term left-back at the very moment Kadioglu is being linked with a £40m exit to Manchester United does not prove anything on its own. But it does fit a familiar pattern: the Seagulls identify, sign and secure the next man in before cashing in on the current star.

United, under pressure to avoid another season undermined by injuries and imbalance in key positions, cannot afford to miss on this signing. Hall is locked away, Balde is waiting on Barcelona, and the clock is ticking.

If the Turkish reports are right, they may have turned to the Premier League’s reigning standout at Brighton to solve a problem that has dragged on too long.
