Manchester United Confirms Bruno Fernandes Will Not Exit
Manchester United have drawn a thick red line through Bruno Fernandes’ name on this summer’s transfer market. The captain is not leaving. Not for 50m euros. Not for any price.
Galatasaray, Juventus and AC Milan have all been weighing up whether to test United’s resolve before next month’s deadline. The Turkish champions, in particular, were understood to be preparing a proposal that could have climbed to 50m euros (£42.7m).
They have their answer already.
Senior figures at Old Trafford have made it clear Galatasaray would be wasting their time. The stance is blunt: there have been no bids for the 31-year-old, and even if one lands, United will reject it.
This is a very different tone from last summer. Back then, United told Fernandes it was his decision whether to accept a huge offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The Portuguese playmaker later admitted he felt “hurt” by the club’s willingness to let him choose his own exit.
This time, there is no such ambiguity. United have told their captain they want him at the heart of the project.
Fernandes has one year left on his current contract, with an option for an extra season. The £57m release clause that once gave suitors a clear route to his signature has now expired. There is, as yet, no agreement on a new long-term deal, but those close to the situation say Fernandes would prefer to stay.
United know the leverage is on their side for now. They also know the mood of their support. In Dublin last week, during a pre-season meeting with Leeds, Fernandes was greeted with a raucous, almost adoring reception. It underlined what everyone at the club already understood: letting their talisman drift towards the exit, or even appear available, would go down badly.
On the pitch, his numbers still shout his importance. Fernandes produced a Premier League record 21 assists last season, orchestrating United’s attacks and dragging them through difficult spells. Next week in Manchester, he is the favourite to be named PFA Player of the Year for 2025-26.
European giants may keep circling, but United have nailed their colours to the mast. The captain stays. The only question now is how long they can turn that hard-line stance into a fresh contract and a clearer future for the player who remains the heartbeat of their team.
