Manchester City Break U18 Transfer Record for Ayyoub Bouaddi

Manchester City are not easing off the accelerator in the first summer after Pep Guardiola. If anything, they’ve floored it.

Days after sealing a €135 million move for Elliot Anderson, City have confirmed the signing of Lille’s teenage sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi in a deal worth a staggering €100m — €95m guaranteed, plus €5m in add-ons. The 18-year-old has penned a five-year contract running until 2031.

Bouaddi, who lit up the World Cup for Morocco this summer, arrives with the kind of billing that usually belongs to established superstars, not teenagers still finding their way in the senior game. City, though, clearly see him as ready for the very top.

“Manchester City are, for me, the best Club in the world. It’s a dream to be here and be able to call myself a City player,” Bouaddi said in the club’s announcement. “I have spent most of my life working hard to become the best player I can be and reach the top of the game.”

A changing of the guard in midfield

The move comes hot on the heels of a seismic departure. City have already sold 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to Barcelona in a deal worth €76.5m including add-ons, ripping out the heartbeat of their midfield and challenging the club to build a new core.

Bouaddi is one of the answers. At least, that’s the plan.

His current market value sits around €80m, but this has been a summer where asking prices have drifted into the stratosphere. For a player of his profile and potential, it was always going to take a figure nudging €100m to convince Lille to part ways with their crown jewel.

City paid it. Without blinking.

Record shattered, not just broken

This isn’t just a new benchmark for teenage transfers. It’s a reset.

Bouaddi’s €100m fee doesn’t edge past the previous record for an U18 player — it obliterates it. The old high mark was the €62m Manchester United sent Lille for Leny Yoro in the 2024/25 season. That deal now looks almost modest in comparison and drops to second on the all-time list.

Behind them, the roll call of prodigies is already star-studded. Endrick follows in third, with Chelsea’s Estêvão in fourth. Real Madrid, long obsessed with hoarding the game’s brightest teenagers, appear three times in this elite bracket: Franco Mastantuono, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo all cost €45m as 18-year-olds.

Further down the list, Tottenham’s €41.4m capture of Archie Gray from Leeds sits eighth. Alessandro Bastoni’s move to Inter takes ninth. Wolves’ €40m outlay on striker Fábio Silva completes the top 10.

That surge of fees has even squeezed out one of the landmark deals of the last decade. Luke Shaw’s €37.5m switch from Southampton to Manchester United in 2014, once a symbol of the new money era for full-backs and teenagers alike, no longer makes the cut.

City, though, have gone beyond nudging the bar higher. With Bouaddi, they’ve launched it into a different stratosphere. The question now is simple and brutal: can an 18-year-old carry the weight of a €100m tag in a post-Guardiola Manchester City built to win everything, every year?
