Manchester City Faces Repeated Rejections for Jennifer Echegini

Manchester City have been told no – several times – in their pursuit of Paris St-Germain midfielder Jennifer Echegini, with the French club making it clear they do not intend to sell one of their key players.

City have lodged multiple offers for the 25-year-old, but sources at PSG insist she is not for sale, even with just a year left on her contract. For the French side, Echegini is central to their plans, not a late-window opportunity to cash in.

The Nigeria international, who spent most of her youth career in England, joined PSG two years ago after a season with Juventus and has grown into a pivotal figure in their midfield. Her reputation soared further last year when she scored the winning goal in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, sealing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th continental title.

City’s need is immediate. The Women's Super League season begins this weekend, and the transfer window closes on Thursday, leaving a shrinking window to reinforce their squad. The urgency sharpened earlier this week when it emerged that Vivianne Miedema, capable of operating both in midfield and attack, will miss the start of the campaign with a knee injury.

PSG, though, have their own priorities. On Wednesday evening they face Eintracht Frankfurt in a Women's Champions League third round qualifying tie, a crucial step in their European campaign. Echegini remains central to that effort, one more reason the club are resisting City’s advances.

While PSG stand firm over one star, another is edging towards the exit.

Arsenal are set to sign France defender Elisa de Almeida from the Paris club, with BBC Sport reporting this week that terms have been agreed. Sources in France indicate the fee is expected to be around £550,000, with the move anticipated to be completed before Thursday’s deadline.

De Almeida is still understood to be available for selection for PSG’s clash with Frankfurt, a final outing before she travels to London to finalise her switch. One key figure staying, one preparing to leave – and Manchester City watching closely, still searching for the midfield answer they hoped Echegini would provide.
