Man City Predicted XI vs Coventry: Enzo Fernandez's Debut

Manchester City have thrown money at the squad. Now Enzo Maresca has to turn the spending into a functioning team. No alibis, no soft landings. Fernandez resets the midfield

The first casualty of the new order is in midfield. Marc Guehi’s brief audition as a holding midfielder appears to be over. It was a smart short-term fix, nothing more. With Fernandez available, City can restore a more natural structure in the middle, with Elliot Anderson expected to operate alongside him and give the side some balance.

That clarity deepens the squeeze higher up. The attacking midfield line is suddenly a crowded street. Rayan Cherki has opened the season brightly, Phil Foden remains one of the club’s crown jewels, and neither can take a starting shirt for granted now. This is exactly what City wanted when they went into the market: real competition, real jeopardy for anyone who dips below the standard.

Defence finally finding rhythm

At the back, the constant chopping and changing looks set to ease. Abdukodir Khusanov is in line to start on the right of the defence, with Ruben Dias and Guehi forming the central pairing. Josko Gvardiol should continue on the left. It is a back four that feels more settled than the early-season experiments, and that stability will matter against a Coventry side ready to pounce on any uncertainty.

Injuries and selection calls

Matheus Nunes remains a doubt and may not be risked. Jeremy Doku is still out with the calf problem he picked up against Arsenal in the Community Shield, so the wide options are slightly thinner than Maresca would like, even with the new arrivals.
