Liverpool Could Finalize £80m Yankuba Minteh Transfer Today

Despite confirming that Cody Gakpo will remain at Anfield, Liverpool might still complete a surprise signing before the transfer window closes at 11pm Tuesday. The agents of Brighton and Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh are pushing to finalize his transfer to the Reds, according to senior correspondent Ben Jacobs from GIVEMESPORT.

Earlier reports indicated Liverpool would hold onto Gakpo after talks about a big-money move to Manchester City stalled. Meanwhile, Liverpool have been linked with several wingers including Minteh and Ismaila Sarr from Crystal Palace, but no agreements have been reached yet.

Jacobs told talkSPORT on Deadline Day morning that Minteh's representatives remain hopeful the deal will be completed soon. Brighton had reportedly set a price tag of £80 million for the Gambian star last week, but it's unclear if there's room for negotiation as the window winds down.

Minteh Fits Iraola’s Plan

The Reds' new coach, Iraola, has shown a preference for fast, dynamic players during his time at Bournemouth. His interest in explosive pace talents like Antoine Semenyo and Eli Junior Kroupi suggests why Minteh is an attractive prospect.

Minteh's Premier League stats from the 2025-26 season underline his speed and contribution:

  • Top speed: 36.2 km/h
  • Sprints: 555
  • Goals: 3
  • Assists: 4

Alongside Bradley Barcola, who also boasts remarkable pace, Minteh would add crucial balance to Liverpool's attacking options. Currently, many of Liverpool’s wingers, including Barcola, Gakpo, and Victor Munoz, prefer the left side, so bringing in a right-sided winger like Minteh could address this imbalance just before the deadline.
