Liverpool's Transfer Activity Heats Up with Double Deal

Liverpool’s quiet window has suddenly caught fire.

Within a few hours, the club have reportedly tied up two deals as Andoni Iraola pushes for late reinforcements before Tuesday’s deadline, sharpening both the present and the future of his squad.

Double deal as Iraola steps on the gas

Liverpool’s priority remains clear: find a left-sided forward capable of filling the void left by Mohamed Salah. Bradley Barcola is understood to be the leading candidate, with talks said to be progressing quickly and optimism around sealing the move before the window shuts.

Ismaila Sarr has also emerged on the radar as a secondary wide option, his name surfacing in the build-up to Saturday’s draw with Nottingham Forest. The message is obvious – Liverpool want pace and threat out wide, and they want it now.

But Iraola’s plans stretch beyond the flanks.

On Monday, reports surfaced of an agreement with Genk for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans in a deal worth around £30 million, a significant outlay on a position Liverpool have not traditionally splashed out on. It signalled intent, a move to refresh and future-proof a key area.

Now, Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool have followed that up by striking a deal for Saint-Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan.

N'Guessan lined up for the future

N'Guessan, just 18, has reportedly been granted permission to undergo a medical ahead of the deadline. The plan is not an immediate Anfield unveiling, though. He is expected to link up with Liverpool in the summer of 2027, a long-term play that fits neatly with the club’s recent recruitment strategy.

With his contract at Saint-Etienne due to expire next summer, French outlet Foot Mercato has claimed the Ligue 2 side had already “opened the door” to his departure. Liverpool have stepped through it, adding another highly rated prospect to a growing stable of youngsters earmarked for the next era.

The move aligns with a clear pattern: while Iraola looks to strengthen his first team, the club hierarchy continues to invest aggressively in youth, building a pipeline designed to sustain Liverpool at the top over the coming years.

Iraola’s transfer message

Speaking recently, Iraola made it clear he was not fixated solely on wide players, even if that remains the most urgent need.

“In the end there are certain things that you can do, certain things that we don’t know if we can do,” he said, underlining the unpredictability of the market.

“It’s true that the priority has been to strengthen in the wide areas. Still we have four, five days, I’m sure if we can improve other areas, we will, but I don’t know how the market is going to finish.

“I cannot tell you. I have to be patient, the same as you. I want to know, believe me. It’s very uncomfortable for me. You are dealing with uncertainties all the time.”

Those uncertainties now look a little clearer. A new goalkeeper lined up. A teenage striker secured for the long term. Wide options being chased aggressively.

Liverpool’s window, once subdued, has come alive in its final act. The only question now is how bold they are prepared to be before the clock finally runs out.
