This move would represent a major statement. At £100m plus add-ons, Barcola will become the second-most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, behind Alexander Isak, who arrived from Newcastle United for £125m last year. He will sit level with Florian Wirtz on the initial fee; the German playmaker joined from Bayer Leverkusen for £100m, with another £16m dependent on Liverpool winning the Premier League or UEFA Champions League.
