Liverpool's Future Attack: Signing Djylian N'Guessan

Liverpool are lining up their attack for the next decade, not just the next game.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club have agreed a deal to sign St Etienne striker Djylian N'Guessan, with the teenager scheduled to arrive at Anfield in the summer of 2027. The agreement is said to be in place with both club and player, and N'Guessan has been authorised to undergo a medical.

The fee remains under wraps, but the strategy is clear. Liverpool are stockpiling high-end talent for the future while trying to fine-tune the present.

This late stretch of the window already had the feel of a busy one on Merseyside. A move for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is understood to be agreed, pending official confirmation, as the club look to add another cutting edge option out wide.

That comes on the back of another long-term play: the deal for Genk goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, worth around €35 million, with the young Belgian also not arriving until next summer. Liverpool’s recruitment team are effectively building a queue at the door, staggering arrivals over several years.

N'Guessan is the latest name on that list.

Only recently turned 18, he is a central striker who can also operate from the flanks, offering the kind of positional flexibility Liverpool have prized in their forwards. He has already broken into St Etienne’s senior set-up, making 13 first-team appearances, several of them in the 2024-25 season, while spending most of his minutes with the club’s B team and under-19 side.

On the international stage, he has been capped up to under-20 level for his country, underlining his reputation as one of the more promising young forwards in his age group.

For now, though, he stays in France. Liverpool’s plan is to leave him at St Etienne to continue his development rather than rush him into the Premier League. The logic is obvious: regular minutes in familiar surroundings, then a leap to Anfield when he is physically and tactically ready.

Supporters will welcome another highly rated prospect tied down for the long term, but the mood around Anfield is still shaped by the here and now. With the window ticking down, the real question is whether this flurry of future deals will be matched by first-team reinforcements that can change Liverpool’s season today, not just in 2027.
