Liverpool Set to Secure Contract for 'Untouchable' Rio Ngumoha
Liverpool are closing in on a new contract for Rio Ngumoha, with the club now said to “fully expect” an agreement to be wrapped up for one of their brightest young stars.
The winger was one of the few positives in a flat Liverpool season, his fearless bursts from the flank cutting through the gloom at Anfield. While senior forwards laboured, Ngumoha injected pace, directness and a sense that something might actually happen when he picked up the ball. Many around the club felt he had earned more minutes, particularly with Cody Gakpo struggling to convince.
That impact inevitably drew attention. Bayern Munich tested the waters earlier in the summer and were linked with a surprise move, sensing an opportunity around a player still on a modest deal. Liverpool’s response was blunt: hands off.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano underlined that stance this week, describing Ngumoha as “untouchable” and central to Liverpool’s plans.
“Liverpool’s intention is to add two wingers to the squad, especially if Gakpo goes to Tottenham – in any case, Rio Ngumoha is untouchable,” Romano said, stressing that a Bayern switch was never close and that the teenager is viewed as an “absolutely crucial” part of both the present and the future at Anfield.
That internal view is now being backed with a contract to match.
New deal on the table for Ngumoha
TEAMtalk report that Liverpool now fully expect to finalise an improved agreement with Ngumoha, reflecting his rapid rise and growing importance. The club, who initially handed him the maximum three-year contract allowed when he joined, are ready to tear up those terms and start again on a far more lucrative package.
The proposed deal would bring a significant pay rise, with further performance-related increases built in. Those bonuses are understood to be linked to international appearances, a clear indication that Liverpool see Ngumoha maturing into a senior international while leading their next cycle at club level.
Crucially, the Reds are now said to “no longer fear” losing him to a European heavyweight. The Bayern noise has died away, the player is embedded in Liverpool’s long-term project, and the club are moving to ensure his contract reflects that status.
If Liverpool do follow through on their plan to recruit two more wingers, it will be with Ngumoha ring-fenced, not replaced.
Gakpo eyes London as Spurs talks advance
While one attacker is being tied down, another is edging towards the exit.
A separate TEAMtalk report claims Cody Gakpo has informed Liverpool he wants to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Dutch forward, who has never fully settled into a defined role on Merseyside, is now pushing for a fresh start under Ange Postecoglou.
According to the report, Gakpo’s representatives have already agreed personal terms in principle with Spurs. They have since moved to the next stage, speaking directly with Liverpool’s hierarchy to spell out the player’s stance: he does not see his long-term future at Anfield and wants the chance to move to north London.
For Liverpool, the picture is becoming clear. One wide forward is agitating to leave, another is being elevated and protected. The reshaping of their attack is no longer theoretical – it is happening in real time, with Rio Ngumoha positioned at the heart of what comes next.
