Liverpool Eye January Signings: Lamine Camara and Tyrick Mitchell

Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the deal now viewed as a genuine possibility, while Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell has emerged as another name on their radar amid rival interest from Manchester United.

Camara’s name is back on the Premier League agenda just weeks after his dramatic deadline-day near-miss with Chelsea.

The 22-year-old was on the brink of a move to Stamford Bridge. He held lengthy talks over his role, gave the green light to the switch and looked set to become Chelsea’s latest midfield signing. Then Monaco pulled the plug in the final hours of the window, abruptly ending the saga.

Chelsea have not walked away. They remain keen and are expected to revisit the deal in January. This time, though, they will not be alone.

Liverpool are now in the frame and, according to Football Insider, have already “held talks” over a potential move for Camara. The price has shifted. Any club coming back for him in the winter window is likely to face a fee closer to €70m (£60m, $81m), rather than the €55m (£47m, $63m) package Chelsea thought they had tied up.

“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Mick Brown told Football Insider, outlining Liverpool’s interest.

“Liverpool will be keeping an eye on how he gets on for Monaco, but there is definitely a deal to be done as we saw when he nearly joined Chelsea.

“His agent has been very outspoken about trying to get him a move, so I expect Liverpool will have held talks with him about the possibility of signing him in January.”

A player who came that close to a Premier League move once is now back in the shop window, with the stakes and the price both rising.

Mitchell in demand as left-back market tightens

While midfield is one area under review, left-back is another position Liverpool are monitoring.

Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas are the main options there, but the situation is far from settled. Kerkez has struggled to find rhythm and consistency. Tsimikas, out of contract at the end of the season and still on the fringes, faces an uncertain future.

That combination has pushed Liverpool into the market, and Mitchell’s name has entered the conversation.

The Crystal Palace defender has already been linked with Manchester United, who are assessing options at left-back. Now, according to another update from Brown to Football Insider, Liverpool could join the chase.

“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” Brown said.

“For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace.

“He impresses every single week, gets on with his job, he’s terrific defensively and he’s improved the attacking side of his game as well, he’s a top, top player.”

That reliability is exactly what the elite sides crave.

“So when you look at those top clubs, you’ve got Liverpool where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be.

“Then you’ve got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big.

“Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition.”

Two positions, two very different profiles, one clear theme: Liverpool’s January could be shaped by how aggressively they choose to move in a market where rivals are circling the same targets.
