Liverpool Faces Potential Exits of Elliott and Gakpo

Liverpool’s summer window is starting to look like a high‑wire act without a safety net – and two more first‑team attackers could be about to step off.

Elliott pushes for Valencia switch

Harvey Elliott, once billed as one of Liverpool’s brightest prospects, is closing in on a move to Valencia after slipping down the pecking order at Anfield.

After an underwhelming loan spell at Aston Villa last season, the 21-year-old has found himself on the fringes under Andoni Iraola. With Liverpool still light in several areas and trimming an already lean squad, Elliott is one of the names being moved towards the exit.

Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto revealed that Valencia are in advanced talks to take the midfielder on loan. He reported that the La Liga side are “negotiating for Harvey Elliott” and that there is “optimism between the parties,” before adding that Elliott has already spoken directly with Iraola and asked to join Valencia, with club-to-club talks “very advanced” over a loan deal.

The pressure around the move has only intensified with Fabrizio Romano now backing up that line. Romano reports that Elliott has already agreed personal terms with Valencia after “positive talks,” with negotiations ongoing between the clubs to finalise the deal.

Romano had earlier confirmed that Valencia had made an official approach to Liverpool, with Elliott holding “three proposals” but the Spanish club working hard to “beat competition” in talks with the player’s camp and Liverpool.

If completed, Elliott’s departure would be another significant shift in a summer that has already seen Liverpool rip up and rework large parts of their squad.

Barcola in, but exits mount

Liverpool’s recruitment has been under fierce scrutiny. The club have finally landed long-term target Bradley Barcola from PSG, with the winger set to arrive for £100m plus add-ons. He will become their fourth major signing of the window after Ronald Araujo, Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz.

Even with Barcola on board, the sense persists that Iraola is being left short. The squad remains thin, and there is a clear need for at least one more forward, a midfielder and possibly a right-back before the window shuts. Instead, more departures are being lined up.

Elliott looks to be the next to go. He might not be the last.

Man City turn up heat on Gakpo

Cody Gakpo could follow him out of the door, with Manchester City stepping up their pursuit of the Dutchman.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider that City are “pushing to agree a deal” for Gakpo and that he has emerged as their “top target” after the departures of Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

“It’s a surprise that City are actively considering a move for Cody Gakpo,” O’Rourke admitted, before underlining why the champions are circling. With Savio and Marmoush both heading to Tottenham, City are suddenly “a bit short in those attacking areas” and are moving for a player long admired at the Etihad.

Gakpo’s situation is complicated by the fact that Tottenham have also tracked him closely this summer. O’Rourke noted that Spurs have shown the “most concrete interest” in the Netherlands international, who has been on their radar for months.

Now City are in the race and pushing hard.

Liverpool, already accused of “flapping” in this window and warned of a “Spurs-like season” if they misjudge the market, are staring at the possibility of losing both Elliott and Gakpo in the same late-August scramble.

With the clock ticking, the question is no longer just who arrives at Anfield – it’s how many more key pieces Liverpool can afford to let walk out.
