Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has hit a dangerous point. The winger wants Anfield. Personal terms are agreed. Yet with the window ticking down, a familiar Premier League rival is circling.

Right now, Liverpool remain Barcola’s preferred destination. That matters. But preference only goes so far when clubs cannot settle on a fee and the clock is running down on the window.

Liverpool’s hierarchy will be wary of being dragged beyond what they consider a rational price. At the same time, the stakes are obvious. Barcola operates primarily from the left, but his versatility across the front line and his experience at the highest level make him an obvious fit for a squad that needs depth and dynamism in wide areas.

His situation in Paris only sharpens the picture. Barcola has been frozen out of the PSG squad while his future is resolved, an awkward limbo for the player but a potential leverage point for Liverpool. It is the kind of scenario that invites a decisive move from sporting director Richard Hughes: a package strong enough to break the deadlock and force PSG to engage seriously.

For Liverpool, the equation is brutal. Miss out on Barcola now and it will sting. Watch him unveiled at Arsenal before the deadline and it will feel like a self-inflicted wound of the highest order.
