Liverpool Closing In on Record Transfer for Bradley Barcola

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is finally moving into the home straight, with reports in France claiming the Premier League side are closing in on an agreement with PSG for the winger.

Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe reports that the France international is “expected to become the biggest transfer of a Ligue 1 player to a foreign club”, underlining the scale of the move Liverpool are trying to pull off.

The Reds are in the market for at least two attacking signings this window, with the 23-year-old Barcola one of their primary targets, and there is serious intent to add a third forward option on top of that.

PSG hold firm – but the price is coming down

The saga has dragged on for weeks, but the outlines are now clear. PSG are not rolling over.

In recent hours, the French champions have remained firm on a €140m (£119.7m) valuation, according to Tanzi – still an eye-watering figure, but a notable step down from the earlier asking price of around €170m (£145.3m) during the peak of negotiations.

That reduction drags the deal closer to the benchmark PSG have been eyeing: the fees Manchester City and Chelsea paid for Elliot Anderson (£116m) and Morgan Rogers (£117m) respectively. Barcola is being priced in that bracket, and Liverpool know it.

For now, Paris are holding their line. “Encore une semaine,” Tanzi posted on X, a reminder that both clubs are staring at a seven-day sprint to get this over the line.

Barcola camp confident as Liverpool push on

While PSG dig in, the mood around the player is shifting.

Barcola and his entourage are understood to be increasingly confident that an agreement will be reached with Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool. The left-sided winger has long been identified as a key piece in the rebuild of the Reds’ forward line, and the sense from France is that the deal is edging closer rather than drifting away.

It has taken time. Too much time for some inside the fanbase. But the feeling now is that the endgame is finally here.

Three attackers in a week?

The Barcola chase is only part of a frantic final stretch for Liverpool’s recruitment team.

Seven days to land three attackers. That is the scale of the task facing Richard Hughes and his staff if they are to fully deliver on the brief.

Alongside Barcola, Liverpool are also believed to be closing in on Yankuba Minteh, with their third bid reportedly putting them within reach of an agreement. If both deals fall into place, attention turns to the third piece of the attacking puzzle – expected to be a centre-forward to round out Iraola’s options.

The plan is clear: give the Basque head coach a stacked forward line for 2026/27, even if other areas of the squad remain exposed.

Gaps that won’t go away

Because there are gaps. Big ones.

Central midfield still looks light, at least from the outside. Liverpool’s hierarchy appear to be backing Iraola to repair a “gaping” midfield using the players already at his disposal, a bold call in a league that punishes any soft centre.

Right-back is even more precarious. Jeremie Frimpong stands as the only senior specialist in the role, leaving Liverpool just one injury or suspension away from a full-blown problem down that flank.

Those issues are unlikely to be fully solved before the window closes. Even with Barcola in red, even with Minteh and a new No.9 through the door, Liverpool look set to go into the first half of the 2026/27 season a couple of bodies short.

The question now is simple: will the firepower they are assembling be enough to carry them through the storm?
