Liverpool Bid for Ismaila Sarr: Transfer News Update

Liverpool have made their move.

With the transfer window ticking into its final days and a Mohamed Salah‑shaped hole still glaring on the right flank, the club have lodged an opening bid for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr, with the player eager to push through a switch to Anfield.

From Minteh to Sarr: Liverpool change lane

Andoni Iraola has made a new winger a clear priority before next week’s deadline. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, but Liverpool’s recruitment team have continued to hunt for a wide forward capable of stepping into Salah’s old territory.

For much of this month, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh looked like that man. Liverpool tested the Seagulls’ resolve twice, including a bid in the region of £60 million for the 22‑year‑old. Brighton stood firm. Talks dragged, then stalled over the weekend, and the trail went cold.

The momentum has now swung decisively towards Sarr.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have parked their pursuit of Minteh and turned fully to Crystal Palace’s Senegalese winger, submitting an offer worth around £50 million.

Player keen, club unconvinced

Discussions between the clubs are under way, with Liverpool’s proposal on the table. On the player’s side, there is no hesitation. Sarr is understood to have given the green light, keen to join the Merseyside club before the window shuts.

Palace, though, are a different story.

They have already rebuffed two bids from Galatasaray earlier in the summer and see Sarr as a key part of their attack. His contract runs until 2029, which leaves the Eagles under no financial or contractual pressure to cash in now. Any sale will be entirely on their terms.

That long deal gives Palace leverage. What it doesn’t do is calm the situation if a player is unsettled.

A rising asset at Selhurst Park

Sarr’s importance to Palace is obvious. Last season he scored nine league goals in 28 appearances, including one against Liverpool in a shock early-season defeat for the Reds. Performances like that are exactly why Liverpool have circled back to him as a primary target.

He missed the opening weekend defeat to Everton with what Palace described as a minor injury and was left out of the squad. New manager Pierre Sage moved quickly afterwards to stress his stance.

“The doctor, the player and I took the decision before our training session yesterday to let him have treatment,” Sage said. “We don’t want him to leave, he is under contract with us for three years and he will be with us on Monday. That’s the most important information for me and for you.”

The message from the touchline is clear: Palace want to keep him. The message from the player’s camp appears very different: he wants out before the deadline.

A late-window test of will

Liverpool’s £50m offer now poses a straight question to Palace. Do they dig in around their valuation and risk carrying an unhappy forward into the season, or do they bank a major fee for a player tied down until 2029 and reshape under Sage?

For Iraola and Liverpool, the equation is simpler. They need goals, width and a new reference point on the right. Sarr has already shown he can hurt them. Now the only issue is whether Palace will let him try doing that for them instead.
