Lazio Considering Icardi and Bissouma as Free-Agent Options

Lazio’s transfer window did not close with the market. Not really. In Rome, the club are still scanning the list of free agents, with two big names sitting on the table: Mauro Icardi and Yves Bissouma.

They have room to move. After bringing in Portuguese defender Diogo Leite on a free, the Biancocelesti still have two open slots in their official Serie A squad list, created by leaving Patric and Luca Pellegrini out of the registration.

That flexibility has reignited an old fascination at the top of the club.

Lotito tempted by Icardi

According to Corriere dello Sport, via TuttoMercatoWeb, president Claudio Lotito remains intrigued by the idea of signing Icardi. The former Inter captain is still without a club after his departure from Galatasaray and represents a rare opportunity: proven Serie A pedigree, no transfer fee, instant star power.

On paper, it looks like the kind of gamble a president loves. A big name, a headline, a statement.

Down on the touchline, though, the view is different.

Gattuso pushes back

Gennaro Gattuso has already set out what he wants from his No. 9. He asked for a more mobile central striker to drive his system, one capable of pressing, stretching defences and working the channels. That request led to the late summer arrival of Andrea Pinamonti.

For Gattuso, the priority now is clear: get Pinamonti fully match-fit and integrated, build the attack around him, and avoid cluttering the dressing room with another high-profile striker who doesn’t quite fit the blueprint.

Icardi, in that context, slides down the list. The report describes the Argentine as a low-priority option for the coach, an opportunity rather than a necessity.

Bissouma enters midfield equation

While the Icardi debate rumbles in the background, another name has entered Lazio’s thinking in a more functional area of the pitch.

Yves Bissouma, formerly of Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton, has emerged as a possible solution to recent injury problems in midfield. His profile ticks obvious boxes: energy, ball-winning, Premier League experience, the ability to add depth in a sector that has suddenly thinned out.

The club are studying the possibility, conscious that a free-agent addition in the middle of the park might answer an immediate need more directly than a marquee forward.

No rush in Rome

Despite the open squad spots and the availability of two recognisable names, Lazio are not racing into a decision. The club intend to take their time, weighing whether to move for Icardi, Bissouma, both, or neither.

For now, the market stays open in their heads, if not on the calendar. The question is simple and unforgiving: do these free agents solve problems for Gattuso’s Lazio, or just create new ones?
