Keisuke Honda Debuts in Singapore Premier League for FC Jurong

Keisuke Honda’s football odyssey rolled into yet another country on Saturday night, and Singapore welcomed him with noise.

At Jurong East Stadium, the 40-year-old finally stepped onto the pitch for FC Jurong, making his Singapore Premier League bow in a 3–0 win over Hougang United. He had spent the first game barking instructions from the technical area. This time, he crossed the white line.

He arrived late but to a roar. Wearing his familiar number four, Honda came on in the 82nd minute, replacing compatriot Yuma Tsuzurabara on the right flank. The scoreline was already comfortable, yet the atmosphere shifted; the home crowd rose as if the game had just begun.

The veteran needed only a few touches to show he was not here for a farewell tour.

On 87 minutes, his pressing sparked one of the loudest reactions of the night. Honda hunted down Hougang goalkeeper Takahiro Koga, forcing a rushed clearance that drew applause and a sense that the visitors were being squeezed from all angles. The legs may be 40, but the intent remained sharp.

Deep into stoppage time, he almost capped the cameo with an assist. Spotting Mizuki Ando’s run, Honda slipped a perfectly weighted through ball into space. Ando finished, the stadium erupted – and then the flag went up. Offside. The goal chalked off, but the vision and timing were unmistakable.

Between 2018 and 2023, he somehow balanced playing with a front-office role, serving as general manager of the Cambodia national team while remaining an active professional. As recently as 2024, he turned out for Paro FC in Bhutan before signing on with FC Jurong for the 2026–27 campaign.

Now, his story has another chapter – this time in the Singapore Premier League, in a side that has opened the season with back-to-back wins and a flawless start.

Honda’s cameo was brief, but it carried a clear message: he is not in Singapore to simply lend his name. As FC Jurong chase momentum and Honda settles deeper into the squad, the question is no longer why he keeps moving, but how much more impact he can squeeze out of a career that refuses to slow down.
