Juventus Target Bissouma as Midfield Reinforcement
Juventus need a midfielder. Not just a body, but someone who can walk straight into a dressing room with title ambitions and cope with the weight of the shirt. One of the names on their table is now a familiar one to Premier League followers: Yves Bissouma.
The Malian is on the market as a free agent after Tottenham let him go at the end of last season. For a club trying to stretch every euro while staying competitive, that alone makes him a tempting proposition. But in Turin, they know the situation is more complex than simply picking up a well-known name at no transfer cost.
A vacancy in the middle
The Bianconeri are carrying a clear hole in midfield and are bracing for the possibility they might need more than one reinforcement if injuries strike again. No squad, however deep, can ride out a wave of absences in the same area of the pitch, and Juventus have already felt how fragile that balance can be.
So the club’s hierarchy have been sifting through options, aware that a rushed signing could haunt them all season. They are adamant they will not bring in just anyone to plug a gap for a few months. The next midfielder has to fit both the system and the dressing-room demands.
That is where Bissouma enters the conversation.
Bissouma back on Serie A radar
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus have discussed Bissouma internally as a possible solution. He is not alone in the Italian shop window: Lazio are also tracking him, sensing an opportunity to add proven top-flight experience without a transfer fee.
Bissouma’s profile is well known. At his best in the Premier League, he produced stretches of high-level performances that underlined his ability to handle tempo, pressure and physical battles in one of the toughest leagues in the world. That background is precisely the sort of experience a club like Juventus usually values when it looks outside Serie A.
For a side trying to stabilise its midfield, the idea of a battle-hardened, free agent with years in England on his CV has obvious appeal.
The fitness question
There is, however, a major caveat. Bissouma barely featured for Spurs last season. On top of that, he has already missed pre-season, leaving a question mark over his sharpness and how long it would take him to reach the physical level Juventus demand.
Signing him now would almost certainly mean a bedding-in period. New league, new teammates, new tactical demands — and all of that while playing catch-up on fitness. For a Juventus side that needs immediate help in midfield, that delay matters.
So the club find themselves at a crossroads. They must strengthen the heart of the team, but they are wary of acting out of desperation and ending up with a player who cannot deliver from the outset.
A calculated gamble?
Bissouma remains firmly on the list. His experience, his previous peaks in the Premier League, and his status as a free agent all work in his favour. Juventus know those qualities could prove valuable if they decide he is worth the gamble.
The question now is simple and unforgiving: can Bissouma, in his current state, give them the level and reliability they need in one of the most scrutinised midfields in Europe?
