Juventus Signs Guglielmo Vicario on Loan from Tottenham
Juventus have turned to Guglielmo Vicario, agreeing a deal with Tottenham that will take the goalkeeper to Turin on an initial loan with an option to buy for £8.6m next year.
The move comes after Juventus walked away from talks for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez. The Italian club saw a €10m bid rejected over the weekend and, with Villa already lining up Parma’s Zion Suzuki for around £30m, the trail quickly went cold. Martínez, currently out with a finger injury, will stay put for now. Juventus moved on.
Vicario, though, needed a way out. Once signed as Tottenham’s long-term No 1 in 2023 for £17.2m, he has slipped down the pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi. Antonin Kinsky has taken the starting spot and Martin Dubravka has arrived on a free as experienced cover. The message was clear: minutes would be hard to find in north London.
So a door opened in Turin. For Juventus, the structure of the deal limits the risk; for Vicario, it offers a reset at one of Italy’s giants and a route back into the spotlight with the national team. If all goes well, that £8.6m option becomes a permanent move next summer.
His departure is part of a broader clear-out at Spurs. Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Will Lankshear and Yves Bissouma have already gone, and Vicario is the next to follow them out. Pape Matar Sarr could yet join the exodus, with Everton and Nottingham Forest both keen and the Senegal midfielder valued at £30m.
Tottenham, though, are not simply trimming. They are rebuilding at speed. More than £200m has already gone on six new signings in this window as De Zerbi reshapes the squad in his image and looks for greater firepower.
Savinho is high on that list. The Brazil forward, on Manchester City’s books, was left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in Cardiff and is understood to be open to a move. Spurs sense an opportunity and are pushing.
Cody Gakpo is another prominent name on their radar. The Liverpool attacker has been heavily linked as De Zerbi searches for extra goals and versatility in the final third.
Vicario heads to Italy chasing games and stability. Tottenham charge on, cashing in, spending big, and gambling that this aggressive reshaping will carry them where they want to go.
