Juventus Goalkeeper Changes: Di Gregorio and Perin Depart as Vicario Takes Over

So much for a quiet summer between the posts in Turin.

Barely weeks after Juventus brought in Guglielmo Vicario on a season-long loan, the club is bracing for a full-scale reset in goal. The two men who have shared the position over the last two seasons are packing their bags, and the goalkeeping hierarchy that once looked settled has been ripped up.

Di Gregorio to Bournemouth, with an eye on the future

Michele Di Gregorio, last season’s starter, has seen the situation for what it is. With Vicario arriving and pressure mounting after an error-strewn campaign, the 26-year-old has agreed a season-long loan move to the Premier League with Bournemouth.

The deal will not be just a temporary escape. An option to buy is included, set at around €14–15 million according to multiple reports, giving Bournemouth the chance to make the move permanent if Di Gregorio convinces in England.

His departure feels logical. His “adventurous” season, littered with costly mistakes and soft goals at the near post, left scars. Juventus’ sixth-place finish did nothing to protect him. Once Vicario walked through the door, the writing on the wall for Di Gregorio turned into a billboard.

Perin set for Palermo and a different life

The bigger jolt comes from Mattia Perin’s situation.

For two seasons he has been the reliable No. 2, the man content to play 10–15 games a year, stay at a top club, and accept the rhythm of a backup role in Turin. Now, with the final week of the summer window approaching, he looks ready to step away from that comfort.

Perin is in line for a permanent move to Palermo, with the Serie B side working on a deal with Juventus. The transfer fee is still being negotiated, but the direction of travel is clear: Perin down a division, in exchange for something he has rarely had at Juventus — the guarantee of being first choice.

Reports suggest Palermo’s contract offer is strong, and the promise of regular football is hard to ignore. For a goalkeeper who has long seemed to value the Juventus environment over a starting spot at a smaller club, this feels like a significant shift.

Only Vicario and Pinsoglio for the opener

Strip it all back, and the situation for Sunday’s season opener at Frosinone is stark.

As things stand, only Vicario and third-choice goalkeeper Carlo Pinsoglio are certain to be called up. The new arrival and the dressing-room “dad.” The future and the familiar.

Pinsoglio, ever-present in the background and beloved inside the squad, stays put. Around him, the club is tearing down the structure that oversaw last season’s defensive wobble.

A clean break from last season’s mistakes?

This could be coincidence. It looks more like a statement.

Di Gregorio is out on loan with an option to buy. Perin is heading for a permanent exit. Vicario steps in as the new No. 1. Pinsoglio remains as the constant, but everything else around the Juventus goalmouth is being rewritten.

Maybe Perin simply found an offer too good to refuse. Maybe Di Gregorio needed a fresh start away from the noise of Turin. Or maybe this is Juventus’ front office drawing a hard line under the goalkeeping errors that haunted a sixth-place finish.

Either way, by the end of August, the Juventus goal will not just have a new face. It will have a new identity.
