After weeks of stand-off and silence, Zamalek have now set a date for the Brazilian’s return, drawing a temporary line under a saga that has kept the White Knights on edge all summer.

Pezzera didn’t just miss a few days. He flat-out refused to report for Zamalek’s pre-season camp, holding his ground in an attempt to force a move to UAE side Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai.

The stalemate has at least produced one concrete development: a return flight.

Media figure Karim Ramzy revealed the timing of Pezzera’s comeback, confirming the forward is scheduled to land in Egypt on Saturday afternoon.

Ramzy wrote on his official Facebook page: “Juan Pezzera arrives in Cairo at four o'clock this afternoon.. and Pezzera is bringing with him to Cairo four people, including a personal bodyguard”.

So he is coming back. But nothing about this story suggests it will be simple from here.

His absence from training still hangs over the club, and there is no final decision yet on whether he will stay or secure his exit before the transfer window shuts.

A season that promised everything

The tension is all the more striking because last season painted a completely different picture.

Pezzera was one of Zamalek’s standout performers in his debut campaign. He featured in 44 matches across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and providing 12 assists. His numbers underlined his influence; his performances often dragged Zamalek forward when games tightened and nerves frayed.

He didn’t just shine individually. He finished the year with silverware, lifting the Egyptian Premier League title with Zamalek — the first trophy of his spell with the White Knights and a key part of the club’s resurgence.
