Joël Piroe Joins West Ham on Loan for Championship Push

Leeds United have confirmed that striker Joël Piroe has joined West Ham United on loan for the rest of the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship season, handing the London club a proven second-tier goalscorer for their promotion push.

Piroe arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a 19-goal haul, and he wasted no time justifying the move. Thrown straight into the side against Ipswich Town just two days after signing, the Surinamese forward marked his debut with a goal and quickly became a key figure in Daniel Farke’s attack.

He finished that first campaign with 53 appearances and 16 goals in all competitions, a reliable return in a side still finding its feet.

Second Season Surge

The real surge came a year later. In 2024/25, Piroe hit 19 goals across 48 outings as Leeds stormed to the Championship title and booked their return to the Premier League. His clinical edge earned him the division’s Golden Boot, underlining his status as one of the most dangerous finishers outside the top flight.

Now 27, Piroe heads to a West Ham team trying to do exactly what Leeds managed: bounce straight back up after relegation. The Hammers, back in the Championship after dropping out of the Premier League last season, gain a forward with a clear track record of delivering in this division when the pressure is at its fiercest.

Leeds, in confirming the deal, have publicly wished Piroe well for his spell at the London Stadium, as a proven champion swaps white for claret and blue in search of another promotion charge.
