Jamal Musiala Faces Driving Ban After High-Speed Crash
Jamal Musiala has been handed a driving ban and a substantial fine after a high-speed crash on a German motorway, capping a bruising spell on and off the pitch for Bayern Munich’s young star.
High-speed crash on the A8
The incident dates back to April 13, 2025, on the A8 motorway in the direction of Salzburg. Musiala was at the wheel of an Audi RS e-tron GT, a powerful electric car with more than 600 horsepower, and was travelling with his younger sister when the crash occurred.
According to the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office, the 23-year-old was clocked at 194 km/h in a 120 km/h zone. During an overtaking manoeuvre, he failed to notice a vehicle to his right, triggering a collision.
That car, a VW Golf, carried two passengers – a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman. Both suffered minor injuries, while the impact left an estimated €200,000 worth of damage.
Witness reports and official accounts describe Musiala as visibly shocked in the aftermath. He is understood to have gone straight to check on the condition of the other occupants involved in the crash.
Court ruling and driving ban
The case moved quietly through the legal system, away from the spotlight that usually follows one of European football’s brightest talents. That changed when the Munich District Court issued a penal order against him.
Florian Lindemann, spokesperson for the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office, confirmed that on January 28, 2026, the court’s order became legally binding. Musiala was found guilty of negligent endangerment of road traffic and negligent bodily injury in two cases.
The punishment hits in two areas: his wallet and his mobility. Alongside a financial penalty, Musiala has lost his driving licence. His representatives have acknowledged the incident and the ruling, after months in which the case remained largely unknown to the wider public.
The ban is not a token gesture. Lindemann clarified that a new licence cannot be issued to Musiala until at least nine months after the penal order became final. That timeline pushes any return to the road into the autumn.
A brutal stretch for Bayern’s prodigy
The legal fallout lands at a time when Musiala has already been wrestling with the most testing period of his career.
During the 2025 campaign, he suffered a serious injury at the Club World Cup – a fractured fibula and a dislocated ankle – the kind of double blow that can reshape a season and test a player’s resolve. It was the most severe physical setback he has faced since breaking through as one of Bayern’s and Germany’s key attacking sparks.
He fought his way back and returned to action in January, only to be jolted again by another ankle problem in March. Each time he has tried to gather momentum, something has cut across his path.
Now comes the driving ban, another complication for a 23-year-old whose life has been lived at top speed, both in football and, on that April day, in a way that crossed a dangerous line. The question for Musiala is not just how he responds on the pitch, but what kind of judgement he shows off it as the next phase of his career unfolds.
