Isak's Double Leads Liverpool to Victory Over Ipswich

Liverpool needed nine minutes to rip the contest away from Ipswich Town. Alexander Isak needed even less time than that to underline the difference in class.

Two ruthless finishes from the forward – both created by Cody Gakpo – set up a 2–0 Premier League victory in Ipswich and handed new manager Andoni Iraola his first win in charge.

Liverpool came out as if stung by their stuttering start to the season. The visitors pressed high, snapped into tackles and moved the ball quickly into dangerous areas. Ipswich barely had time to settle before the first blow landed.

Isak struck early, then struck again, both times fed by Gakpo, who stitched Liverpool’s attacks together with sharp movement and clean passing. The second goal arrived before the home side could recover from the first. Ipswich’s plan, whatever it had been, was shredded inside the opening nine minutes.

Gakpo’s influence will not have gone unnoticed. Manchester City submitted a transfer offer for the Dutchman this week, and his response was to dominate the opening spell, carving Ipswich open twice and effectively deciding the contest before it had a chance to breathe.

From there, Liverpool controlled the tempo. They didn’t need to chase a third; they simply guarded what they had, managed the game, and squeezed the life out of Ipswich’s attempts to respond.

Iraola up and running, Liverpool climb the table

For Iraola, this was a significant step. After back-to-back 2–2 draws with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, his side finally combined attacking punch with defensive control. The clean sheet was Liverpool’s first of the campaign and came with a far more assured display at the back.

The win lifts Liverpool to fifth place with five points from three matches. It’s not a surge, but it is a platform – and, crucially, a first three-point haul under the new manager.

Ipswich, who arrived with three points from their opening two games, stay on that tally after three matches and drop to 13th. They battled to keep the scoreline respectable after the early shock, but the damage was already done.

There was at least one bright moment for the visitors: Bradley Barcola made his debut from the bench, a small note of optimism on a night otherwise defined by Liverpool’s early storm.

Two goals, two Gakpo assists, one clean sheet, and Iraola finally in the win column. Now comes the real question: can Liverpool turn this sharp, decisive start into a sustained charge up the table?
