Inter Milan Close to Signing Curtis Jones for £30m

Inter Milan are edging closer to a deal worth 35m euros (£30m) for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, in what would be one of the headline moves of the window.

Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) from the Italian champions in June, holding firm to a valuation of around £35m for the 25-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract. That stance has dragged Inter back to the table with a package much closer to Anfield’s asking price.

The expectation now is that a fee of £30m will be enough to unlock an agreement between the clubs. Sources in Italy believe a verbal understanding is already in place, but both sides insist key details still need ironing out before anything is signed.

Liverpool are prepared to cash in, provided the structure of the deal mirrors the £30m package Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence. They see this as the benchmark for Jones, a homegrown midfielder with significant Premier League and European experience.

Inter’s pursuit has not come out of nowhere. The Serie A champions tried to prise Jones away in January with a loan offer including an option to buy, only for Liverpool to reject the proposal and keep him for the run-in.

Jones has been part of the first-team picture at Anfield since his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, amassing 228 appearances in all competitions. Last season he featured 49 times, but only started 18 Premier League games and never truly nailed down a permanent place in Arne Slot’s midfield.

Now, with one year left on his deal and Inter pushing hard, Liverpool look ready to draw a line under a long-running saga — at a price they believe reflects his value.
