Inter's Midfield Puzzle: Curtis Jones Transfer Dependent on Frattesi

Inter have had one name pinned to their midfield board all summer: Curtis Jones. Not as one option among many. The option.

They have been waiting in the shadows for two things to fall into place: an outgoing move in their own midfield and a drop in Liverpool’s demands. Now Lazio’s interest in Davide Frattesi threatens to flip the whole market on its head.

Frattesi–Lazio talks light the fuse

As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via SOSFanta), Inter and Lazio have begun working on a deal for Frattesi built around a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. The structure suits everyone on paper. Lazio get a ready-made starter without an immediate heavy hit on their budget; Inter protect the value of a player they still rate.

Frattesi’s stance is clear. He wants to play. Last season he collected 33 appearances, but only a small fraction of those came from the first minute. For a midfielder in his prime years, cameos are no longer enough.

His agent, Giuseppe Riso, has pushed the situation forward. According to Alfredo Pedullà, Riso has offered Frattesi to Lazio, a club he knows well through other clients such as Mario Gila, Andrea Pinamonti, and Lorenzo Lucca. Lazio had weighed up a partial swap deal with Napoli earlier in the window, but that track went cold as Milan moved in and closed for the defender involved.

With Benfica’s Franjo Ivanovic heading to Lens instead of Rome, Lazio’s need for a high-level addition has only grown. Frattesi now sits firmly in their sights.

Inter ready to pounce on Jones

If Frattesi goes, Inter will not waste time. His departure would immediately relaunch their pursuit of Curtis Jones.

The Serie A champions are prepared to invest up to €35 million to bring the Liverpool midfielder to Milan. Liverpool, though, have not blinked. Despite Jones’ short-term contract situation, the Premier League club continue to demand a hefty fee.

Jones is open to the move. That much is clear. He has been carefully managed and effectively protected during pre-season, a sign that Liverpool know serious negotiations could arrive and do not want to risk an injury derailing them.

Inter, for their part, see him as the ideal profile to refresh a title-winning midfield without tearing it apart. Dynamic, technically secure, comfortable in tight spaces – the sort of player who can slide straight into Simone Inzaghi’s patterns.

Lazio’s gamble and a twist of irony

From Lazio’s perspective, Frattesi would be a statement signing. He would walk into the starting XI from day one, one of the few clubs where his role would be undisputed.

There is a delicious edge to the story. Frattesi has Roma ties, and a move to Lazio would add an extra layer of drama in the capital. A former Giallorossi prospect potentially driving the midfield of their fiercest rivals.

Yet this is Lazio, a club that has repeatedly struggled to close deals even when the pathway looked clear. Negotiations with Inter will not be simple. The Scudetto holders are not in the business of handing out bargains, especially when the domino effect leads directly to a major signing of their own.

So the chain is set:

  • Lazio push for Frattesi.
  • Inter hold firm on terms.
  • If the numbers line up, Curtis Jones becomes the next big story of the summer.

One transfer could unlock another. The question now is whether Lazio can finally finish a deal and trigger the move Inter have been waiting on for months.
