Hull City Condemns Racist Abuse of New Signing Robinio Vaz

Hull City have condemned what they called “abhorrent racist abuse” aimed at new signing Robinio Vaz after announcing his arrival on social media.

The Championship club confirmed that the post revealing the 19-year-old French striker’s season-long loan from Roma, published on Tuesday, was removed after it became a target for discriminatory messages.

In a strongly worded statement, Hull said they are working with Humberside Police and other authorities to track down those responsible for the “disgusting abuse”, and promised full backing for their new forward.

No individual should ever experience discriminatory abuse, and the club will provide Robinio with our full support,” the statement read, underlining the club’s stance.

Hull stressed that the club operates a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination and has already been in contact over the last 24 hours with the Premier League, anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out and the relevant social media platforms as they push for action.

“We stand with Robinio and encourage all supporters to continue to report any form of discrimination,” the club added.

Vaz, who scored once in Serie A last season, has joined Hull on loan with an option to buy at the end of the campaign — a fresh opportunity in English football now framed by an early and ugly reminder of the battles the sport still has to fight.
