Harry Kane Wins Germany’s Player of the Year 2026

BERLIN — Harry Kane’s avalanche of goals has carried him to another landmark in Germany. The Bayern Munich striker has been voted Germany’s Player of the Year 2026, with Vincent Kompany taking the coach’s award after a season that kept Bayern’s domestic dominance intact.

Kane’s numbers were brutal. Sixty-one goals in all competitions for Bayern last season, including the German Supercup. A relentless output that powered the club to another Bundesliga title and the German Cup, where he signed off with a hat trick in the final.

The new season has already started with more silverware. Bayern lifted the German Supercup again on Saturday, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 away. Kane didn’t score this time, but his presence still framed the occasion as Bayern underlined their grip on the German game.

The scale of his recognition was clear in the vote. Kane collected 272 votes in the annual poll run by Kicker magazine among 659 members of the Association of German Sports Journalists (VDS), finishing comfortably ahead of Bayern teammate Michael Olise, who received 203.

On the touchline, Kompany’s impact was rewarded just as emphatically. The Bayern coach received nearly half of all votes cast for the coaching prize, finishing ahead of Freiburg’s Julian Schuster, last year’s winner. Kompany’s recognition underlines how quickly he has imposed himself in one of Europe’s most demanding jobs.

Florian Wirtz claimed the Player of the Year award a year ago. This time, the spotlight has swung decisively to Munich.

The honors themselves carry weight. The Player of the Year in Germany has been chosen since 1960, with the coaching award introduced in 2002. Franz Beckenbauer stands alone with four player titles, while Jürgen Klopp and Felix Magath share the benchmark among coaches with three awards each.

Kane and Kompany have now written their names into that history. The question is how long they plan on staying there.
