Barcelona's Gavi Declines Manchester United Transfer Interest

Barcelona midfielder Gavi has refused an approach from Manchester United, forcing the English club to seek other options in their midfield search. Now, the Red Devils must identify another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Gavi’s Commitment to Barcelona

The young midfielder feels firmly rooted in Spain, having joined Barcelona at just 11 years old and making 119 league appearances since debuting in 2021. He was part of Spain’s squad during their recent World Cup win, though he remained on the bench in the 1-0 final victory over Argentina in New York.

Despite the addition of Rodri to the squad, Barcelona sees Gavi as a cornerstone of coach Hansi Flick's plans. Flick played a key role in restoring Gavi’s confidence after a severe knee injury sidelined him for five months last season. The player is motivated to one day become captain of the team.

"I have suffered a lot, unfortunately, in these last two years. It’s football," Gavi said. "They were serious injuries and you have to be mentally strong, and I have been. It’s a strong point of mine. I’m at this level because of the mentality I have. It is not easy to play at this pace, coming from two serious injuries. I’ve done it and I’m proud. Luckily, the coach trusts me a lot. He’s like a father to me. I am very grateful to him. It’s not easy to get to play after this injury. He knows about my talent and mentality and that it’s important for the team. He blindly trusts me."

Barcelona plans to open discussions on a new contract for Gavi soon, even though his current deal runs until 2030.
