Gabriel Jesus: Napoli's Key Target as Arsenal Decision Looms

Gabriel Jesus remains at the centre of Napoli’s late-window plans, even as his situation at Arsenal grows increasingly stark.

The Brazilian forward is still Massimiliano Allegri’s first-choice target up front, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, with Napoli pushing to upgrade their attack in the final days of the summer market. Other names are on the table, but Jesus is the one Allegri wants.

For now, though, he’s in limbo.

Jesus training alone as talks continue

While Arsenal and Napoli discuss a possible deal, Jesus is training away from the main group at London Colney. It’s a striking image for a player who once led the line in title races.

Mikel Arteta framed it as a squad-management decision rather than a disciplinary move.

"It's something to do with the numbers that we have in the squad at the moment and the way we're managing that kind of situation individually with all the players – they have some personal situations," Arteta explained.

He made it clear the dialogue with Jesus has been open and direct.

"Yes, for sure (he's spoken to Jesus). Those conversations go both ways, but I'm very satisfied with how these conversations went because I know what is in each other's hearts.

"The words that come through in those conversations make me really happy. It's inevitable at some point you need to have certain discussions and say certain things that sometimes are tough."

Tough is the right word. Jesus is on the fringes, the window is closing, and decisions can’t be delayed much longer.

Napoli wait, Arsenal push

Earlier in the month, the path seemed to be clearing. Fenerbahce struck an agreement to sign Romelu Lukaku from Napoli, a key outgoing that needed to happen before the Italian side could fully commit to a move for Jesus.

That deal injected optimism into Napoli’s pursuit. The chain reaction was supposed to follow quickly. It hasn’t.

Progress since then has been slower than expected. Napoli continue to study alternatives, but Di Marzio maintains that Jesus is still Allegri’s preferred choice to lead the line.

On the player’s side, previous reports suggested Jesus had been hesitant about a switch to Naples. Whether his stance has softened as his Arsenal role diminishes is still unclear.

Arsenal’s last big decision on Jesus

One factor is non-negotiable: time. Jesus’ contract runs out next year, and this window represents Arsenal’s last realistic chance to secure a significant fee.

That reality is driving their stance. With the Brazilian now outside the core group in training and no extension agreed, Arsenal appear ready to cash in if Napoli step up with the right offer.

The clock is ticking on all sides. Allegri wants his striker. Arsenal want clarity – and a sale. Jesus wants minutes at the highest level.

Something has to give before the window slams shut.
