Former QPR Midfielder Ákos Buzsáky Missing for Over a Week

Hungarian police are searching for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky, who has been missing for more than a week.

The 44-year-old, once a familiar figure in English football, was officially listed as missing on August 18, according to police records cited by the Sun. Since then, officers in Hungary have been trying to trace his whereabouts.

Former QPR favourite missing

Buzsáky, capped by Hungary during his playing days, carved out a strong reputation in England in the late 2000s and early 2010s. A creative midfielder with a sharp eye for goal, he impressed at Plymouth Argyle before moving to Queens Park Rangers, where he became a fan favourite.

He featured for QPR in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season, scoring twice in the top flight. His career in England wound down at Portsmouth in League One, and he retired from professional football in 2013.

Life after the game took him away from the spotlight. Reports in Hungary say Buzsáky built a new career as a construction contractor, spending long stretches of time working in Greece.

Family caught by surprise

The news of the police search appears to have blindsided his family.

His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., told Hungarian outlet Blikk he did not know his son had been reported missing, nor that the authorities were involved.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," he said.

It is understood Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has also been trying to find him in recent days and is believed to be the family member who first alerted police.

For now, the search continues, with little clarity over where a player once at the heart of Loftus Road’s noise and colour has gone.
