Ferran Torres Joins Paris Saint-Germain Until 2031

Ferran Torres, the man who broke Argentina hearts in last month’s World Cup final, is on the move again – and back under a familiar coach.

Paris Saint-Germain confirmed on Saturday that the Spain forward has signed from Barcelona on a long-term deal running until 2031. The Ligue 1 champions are understood to have paid around 50 million euros for the 26-year-old, a significant outlay for a player very much at the peak of his powers.

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning forward has signed with the Club until 2031,” read the club statement, as the French giants unveiled the latest star in their ongoing rebuild.

Reunion with Luis Enrique

For Torres, this is more than just a transfer. It is a reunion.

The former Valencia and Manchester City attacker will once again work under Luis Enrique, the coach who first trusted him on the international stage. Luis Enrique handed Torres his Spain debut in a Nations League clash against Germany in 2020, and the pair now link up in Paris with a World Cup winner’s medal between them.

Nicknamed “The Shark”, Torres arrives in the French capital with a sizeable body of work behind him. He joined Barcelona in the 2021/22 season and went on to make 207 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals. His time in Catalonia brought three La Liga titles and a goal in the 2025 Copa del Rey final triumph over Real Madrid – a strike that cemented his reputation as a big-game player.

Barcelona, who lose not just a goalscorer but a symbol of their recent domestic dominance, marked his departure with a formal farewell.

From World Cup hero to PSG spearhead

Torres’ stock soared this summer. Used from the bench in the World Cup final, he delivered the defining moment, scoring in extra time to deny Argentina a successful title defence and secure the trophy for Spain. That single strike, on the grandest stage of all, has now been followed by a move to a club obsessed with conquering Europe.

PSG, twice winners of the Champions League, see Torres as another piece in a forward line designed to outgun the continent’s elite. His versatility across the front, his sharp movement, and his knack for decisive goals give Luis Enrique fresh options as he shapes a squad in his own image.

Knock-on effect for Liverpool?

Torres’ arrival could have serious consequences far beyond Paris.

Liverpool, who have tracked PSG winger Bradley Barcola for weeks, may sense an opening. The 23-year-old wide man lit up the World Cup with France and has been a prime target for the Premier League side, but negotiations have stalled over PSG’s valuation.

Talks between the clubs have been ongoing, with an asking price of around 150 million euros standing as the main obstacle. Now, with a new forward added to an already crowded attacking department, the dynamics could shift.

PSG have their World Cup match-winner through 2031. The question now is whether that deal unlocks the door for Barcola to follow Torres out into a starring role elsewhere – and whether Liverpool are willing to meet the price to make it happen.
