Fenerbahce have made their boldest move of the summer, confirming the arrival of Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Napoli as they launch an all-out assault on Turkish football’s summit.

The Istanbul club kept the numbers quiet, but French outlet Foot Mercato values the deal at around 6 million euros, potentially rising with bonuses. For a forward of Lukaku’s pedigree, it is a striking piece of business.

At 33, Lukaku leaves Italy after two seasons in Naples that delivered a Serie A title and another heavyweight chapter in a career spent at the top end of European football. Now he walks into a very different kind of pressure: leading Fenerbahce’s charge to reclaim domestic dominance.
