Enes Ünal Rejoins Getafe After Bournemouth Stint

Enes Ünal has ended his Bournemouth stint and returned to familiar ground, rejoining La Liga side Getafe on a free transfer.

The Turkey international, 29, leaves the south coast with Bournemouth still protected financially. The deal includes potential bonuses of up to £1.3m, along with a 20% sell-on clause if Getafe cash in on him down the line.

Ünal’s time in England never really caught fire. Injuries kept interrupting his rhythm and he finished with 58 appearances and just five goals for the Cherries, a modest return for a forward signed to add punch to the attack. With Bournemouth also intent on trimming their wage bill, the move suits all parties.

He first arrived at Vitality Stadium on loan from Getafe in January 2024, before Bournemouth committed to a permanent transfer worth around £13m later that year. It was a sizeable investment that never quite delivered on the pitch, even if his presence around the squad clearly mattered.

In a club statement, Bournemouth described Ünal as “a popular figure within the squad” and praised the “positive contribution” he made both on and off the pitch. They closed by thanking him for his efforts and wishing him “every success for the future.”

The focus now turns to the rest of Bournemouth’s summer reshuffle. With most of their incoming business close to wrapped up, the club are working on a deal that would see full-back Max Aarons depart, another sign that the squad that started last season will not be the one that kicks off the next.
