Driouech's Rangers Move Collapses as PSV Faces Transfer Setback

Couhaib Driouech will not be joining Rangers after all. After days of talks in Glasgow, negotiations broke down and the winger is heading back to PSV, Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink reported on Friday.

The deal had seemed close. Driouech, 24, had already travelled to Scotland to finalise the move, with PSV poised to collect up to €8 million. That money is now off the table, and the forward returns to Eindhoven with no agreement in place.

What exactly derailed the transfer remains unclear, but the outcome is not. Driouech goes back to PSV, and another major outgoing move slips through the club’s fingers.

Pattern of Collapsed Transfers

It is becoming a pattern. This is the fourth collapsed transfer involving PSV in just five months, after failed moves for Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo. Each time, the club edged towards the finish line. Each time, the deal fell apart.

Driouech’s sporting outlook in Eindhoven does not suddenly brighten because of this. He missed the opening matches of the season through injury and is not expected to play a prominent role in the short term. Inside the squad hierarchy, he appears to have slipped behind academy product Amir Bouhamdi.

Bouhamdi is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion, a clear signal of where PSV see their future depth on the wing. For Driouech, the path back into the picture looks steep.

PSV now have to park the transfer frustration quickly. They travel to Excelsior on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00, still smarting from a 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard last weekend. The question is no longer just who leaves or stays in Eindhoven, but how this unsettled backdrop will shape their season on the pitch.
