Djed Spence Edges Closer to Inter Milan Move
Djed Spence’s future is edging away from north London – and not towards Arsenal.
The Tottenham full-back, long tipped for a move away after failing to nail down a starting spot, is now pushing for a switch to Inter Milan, with the Italian giants closing in on a deal.
“Now he would be a player of interest. If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.”
That kind of endorsement underlines why Spurs have been holding firm on their valuation. For much of the summer, Tottenham and Inter have been some distance apart on the fee, with the Premier League club seeking a higher figure to part with the Englishman.
The dynamic has shifted. Spence wants the move. Inter want the player. And the clubs are now in active talks.
Reports in Italy, including Gazzetta dello Sport, say Inter are closing in on an agreement worth around €30million (£25m) plus bonuses. That figure sits below the number Spurs were initially said to be demanding, yet the player’s desire to join the Serie A side appears to be softening Tottenham’s stance.
Arsenal’s name has been loosely attached to Spence in the past, but the reality this summer tells a different story. Mikel Arteta’s side have not moved for a right-back of his profile and have shown no real intent to strengthen in those wide defensive areas. Any late swoop from the Emirates would be a major surprise.
Right now, any destination other than Inter feels like an outside bet. Unless the financial landscape changes dramatically or a new suitor crashes the party, Spence’s next chapter looks set to be written at San Siro, not across north London.
