Derby County Signs Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion

Derby County have landed midfielder Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal, ending a brief but sharp transfer tussle between the Championship rivals.

The 31-year-old arrives at Pride Park for an undisclosed fee, just two days after West Brom rejected Derby’s opening offer. The Rams returned to the table, pushed the deal over the line, and now add a seasoned Championship operator to the heart of their midfield.

Mowatt, who had one year left on his contract at The Hawthorns, leaves West Brom after joining them in the summer of 2021. His final outing for the Baggies came only last week, in their Carabao Cup first-round win over Rotherham, the 170th appearance of his spell with the club.

A product of Leeds United’s system and a key figure in Barnsley’s rise under previous managers, Mowatt brings a wealth of second-tier experience and a proven left foot to Derby’s promotion push.
