Denis Omedi's Ambitious Goals at Gor Mahia

Denis Omedi keeps his targets secret – but Gor Mahia know exactly why they signed him.

The 32-year-old Ugandan forward has landed in Nairobi with a solid résumé behind him, swapping Rwandan giants APR FC for the 22-time Kenya Premier League champions after standout spells at Kitara FC and Booma FC. He arrives on a two-year deal, part of Gor Mahia’s latest reload for another title push in the 2026/27 season.

Warm welcome, clear intent

Omedi has not needed long to settle. From the stands to the dressing room, he says the reception has been exactly what a new signing hopes for at a big club.

“Generally, I can say Kenya is so welcoming. The fans, the players, the technical team, led by the head coach, and the management; everything is okay, and everyone is welcoming. The environment is okay, and I think it's supposed to be an environment worth working in,” he said.

That “environment” is what he keeps coming back to. The forward points to the coaching staff, the wider technical team and the club’s management as the pillars behind a calm, professional setup that has allowed him to focus purely on football: adapting to a new league, learning new teammates, understanding what it really means to lead the line for Gor Mahia.

He believes the structure around him offers the right platform to grow his game, contribute immediately and carve out a reputation in Kenyan football rather than arriving as just another foreign signing passing through.

Ambition behind closed doors

Ask Omedi what he wants to achieve this season and the conversation quickly changes tone. The smile stays, but the details disappear.

He freely admits he has set himself big personal objectives for his first campaign in green, but he has no interest in sharing them publicly.

“The team also has their own personal targets. But also, as an individual, I have my own personal targets that I have set for myself, and I basically know targets; if you say them out, they don't come to pass,” he said.

So he keeps them locked away. For him, those goals are fuel, not headlines. They are written for his own eyes, not for social media graphics.

“So they are my own, and they are the ones that keep me motivated, and I always make sure I work so hard because I know sometimes the targets I have set scare me as well. So I know it demands a lot from me, and I believe that if I am doing it for myself, I believe that it will also benefit the team.”

The admission that his own targets “scare” him tells its own story. Omedi is not chasing easy numbers. He wants standards that stretch him, demands that bite back when form dips or fatigue sets in.
