David Alaba's Next Move: Father Confirms Career Continues

David Alaba is between clubs, but not, his father insists, at the end of the road.

George Alaba, father and adviser to the former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid star, says the phone has been busy. Very busy.

"There have been numerous enquiries. In the USA, in Europe, everywhere," he told Austrian outlet Kronen Zeitung, pushing back against any talk of a quiet fade into retirement. "It will continue, I know that. He will carry on."

Real Madrid chose not to extend the defender’s contract beyond the summer after a series of injuries, drawing a line under his spell with the Spanish giants. At 34, Alaba now sits in that rare space for a player of his pedigree: a free agent, fully available, and still a serious name on the market.

Interest is circling. Union Berlin have been mentioned in Germany as one of the clubs keeping tabs on the situation. Reports have also linked the Austrian with Mexican side Club America and a romantic return to his first professional home, Austria Vienna.

The sense is that the waiting will not last much longer.

"He will announce soon what happens next. He is doing excellently," George Alaba said, hinting that a decision is close. Austria Vienna, in particular, have made their feelings clear. "David has had calls. They want to, he wants to as well, but at the moment it is a little too early for him. He still has a lot he wants to do in football."

That last line matters. Alaba’s career has rarely moved slowly.

Between 2008 and 2021, he belonged to Bayern Munich, aside from a one-year loan at TSG Hoffenheim. In Munich he became a cornerstone of an era: 431 competitive appearances, 33 goals, 55 assists, and a trophy haul that included two Champions League titles.

From there came the move to Real Madrid, another superclub, another Champions League twice added to his collection. Injuries gradually restricted his influence, but not his status in a dressing room stacked with stars.

His final competitive club outing came in May, in Real’s 4-2 win over Athletic Club. He then featured for Austria at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, underlining that he still operates at the sharp end of the game.

Now, for the first time in his senior career, Alaba stands unattached, with options spread across continents and the clock ticking toward his next decision.

He has already conquered Germany and Spain. The question now is simple: where does a serial winner choose to write his final chapters?
