Daniel Bentley Joins Coventry City with High Ambitions
Daniel Bentley has nailed his colours to the Coventry City mast and made it clear he is not arriving just to make up the numbers.
The experienced goalkeeper, unveiled as the latest piece in the Sky Blues’ ambitious project, spoke with the conviction of a player who expects to shape the dressing room as much as he does the penalty area.
“Coventry City is a fantastic club and I'm really happy to get this deal over the line,” he told the club’s official website, outlining his belief that he has picked a club on the rise rather than a safe landing spot.
What sold it to him? The feeling around the place. Bentley pointed to last season’s “fantastic” campaign as the spark for a club that, in his words, is clearly developing and brimming with optimism. The mood, he said, is “really positive” with “an obvious excitement” heading into the new season and a clear target: be “as successful as possible.”
Bentley is not shy about what he brings to that push. He stressed his status as a senior player, promising leadership, a strong voice and “really high standards” on and off the pitch. Experience, for him, is not a line on a CV; it is a responsibility.
“I will bring a lot of experience. I'm a senior player with good leadership qualities and I'm someone who has really high standards. I want to make my mark on the pitch as well, of course,” he said, setting out his stall.
He knows he is walking into a competitive goalkeeping department and welcomed it, describing it as a “really good goalkeeping group.” The shirt will not be handed to him. He accepts that. He embraces it.
“When I get my opportunity, it is down to me to take it,” he added.
That line matters, because it underlines where his sights are set. Bentley is not talking about mid-table consolidation or gentle progress. He is openly targeting results at the very top level.
“I want to help the club get results in the Premier League,” he said.
Coventry have heard such ambitions before. The difference now will be whether Bentley’s standards and presence can help turn that stated aim into something far more tangible.
