Crystal Palace Pursues Loan Deal for Chelsea Defender Disasi

Crystal Palace are pushing towards a loan deal for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as new boss Sage hunts for a commanding leader at the heart of his defence.

Reports from Sky Sports News and talkSPORT say Palace are in advanced talks to bring in the 28-year-old centre-back, who has been frozen out at Stamford Bridge and has not played for Chelsea since January 2025. He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United, but remains firmly outside the plans of the Chelsea hierarchy and in what has been dubbed their “bomb squad”.

Palace have moved quickly. They need to. Maxence Lacroix’s £52m move to Chelsea ripped out the core of their back line and left a sizeable hole in both quality and personality. Disasi, with his Premier League experience and physical presence, has been identified as the man to plug it.

Urgency for a New Leader

Sage did not hide the urgency of the situation when he faced the media on Thursday.

"Yes. We need a player in this department, a player with a lot of games, if possible, in the Premier League," he said. "We need players, but we need a leader and that's why we need to wait a little bit to find a good one."

The message was clear: Palace are not just shopping for numbers. They want a voice, a reference point, someone to marshal a defence that has lost its anchor.

Asked directly about the pursuit of Disasi, Sage chose his words carefully but did little to cool the speculation.

"He's a player from Chelsea, it's difficult for me to speak about a player of another club, but I hear the same noise as you," he admitted.

Chelsea, stacked with central defenders and reshaping their squad again after Lacroix’s arrival, are open to temporary exits for players on the fringes. For Disasi, a move to Selhurst Park would offer the chance to relaunch a Premier League career that stalled abruptly in west London.

Palace, meanwhile, know exactly what is at stake. Replace Lacroix properly, or risk building Sage’s new era on shaky foundations.
