Cristiano Ronaldo Linked to Al-Nassr Takeover Bid
Portuguese reports have thrown up a striking twist in the future of Al-Nassr: a five-man investment consortium, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo himself, is said to be preparing a formal offer to buy the Saudi club from the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
The names involved are heavyweight. Ronaldo, Al-Nassr’s captain and undisputed star, is part of a group that also includes Gerry Cardinale, the chief executive of RedBird Capital and owner of Milan, alongside Saudi businessmen Ibrahim Al-Muhaidib, Mohammed Al-Khereiji and Sharaf Al-Hariri.
According to Portuguese newspaper “A Bola”, Ronaldo’s inclusion would shift his bond with Al-Nassr into completely new territory. He arrived as the league’s marquee signing and quickly became the club’s leading figure on and off the pitch. Now, he could move from symbol to stakeholder.
If the deal goes through, Ronaldo would not only wear the armband. He would help own the club whose colours he has carried since his move to Saudi Arabia, potentially gaining real influence over Al-Nassr’s strategic direction and long-term vision.
The target is clear: wrest control of Al-Nassr from the PIF, which currently holds a controlling stake. That sets up a crucial negotiation phase that could redefine the club’s path in the coming years.
$100 million each on the table
“A Bola” reports that the proposed structure is straightforward but substantial. Each of the five investors would commit around $100 million, creating a sizeable war chest both for the takeover itself and for future investment in the club.
Beyond Ronaldo and Cardinale, the trio of Al-Muhaidib, Al-Khereiji and Al-Hariri bring local financial clout and direct access to the Saudi sports market. Their presence roots the project firmly in the country’s economic and sporting ecosystem.
Cardinale’s role adds a different flavour. The American, through RedBird Capital and his ownership of Milan, already operates in the upper tiers of European football. His experience in running clubs and building sports investments gives the consortium an international edge and a tested playbook.
Pivotal talks with the Public Investment Fund
The story, as told in Portugal, is now reaching a sensitive stage. Representatives of RedBird and the wider consortium are preparing to sit down with PIF officials in the coming period to present and discuss the bid.
Everything runs through the Fund. Its green light would trigger a change of ownership and hand the keys of Al-Nassr to the new group. A refusal would slam the brakes on the project and leave the current structure intact.
All this unfolds while Al-Nassr stand at a crossroads, both competitively and commercially. The club is pushing on in domestic and regional competitions at the same time as Saudi football undergoes a sweeping investment drive. Any shift at the top now carries the potential to reshape not just a season, but the club’s entire trajectory.
Turn these negotiations into a signed agreement and it would rank among the most eye-catching takeovers in Saudi football. Not only because of the money involved, but because the man leading the line for Al-Nassr on matchday could soon be one of the men leading it in the boardroom.
