Conceicao Caught in Juventus-Chelsea Transfer Tug of War
The transfer window was supposed to wind down quietly for Juventus. Instead, Conceicao has been dragged into one of its most volatile late twists.
The Portuguese winger, a key piece in Luciano Spalletti’s plans, now stands on the edge of a move he does not want. The club, though, may not have the luxury of listening to his wishes.
Mendes pulls the strings
According to Gazzetta, Jorge Mendes is orchestrating a complex, two-continent operation that could rip up Juventus’ tactical blueprint days before the deadline.
The super-agent is putting the final touches on a deal to move Neto from Chelsea to Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. An improved offer from Al-Hilal has finally broken Chelsea’s resistance, pushing the Premier League club into urgent search mode for a new attacking winger.
Their first big swing, a move for Rafael Leao, failed to convince the Chelsea hierarchy. Attention then snapped to Turin. Conceicao quickly climbed to the top of their list.
Chelsea need a winger. Mendes has one. Juventus, crucially, need money.
Player wants Turin, balance sheet says otherwise
Conceicao’s stance is clear: he wants to stay. He sees Juventus as the right stage to grow, to refine his game, to build something under Spalletti rather than start again in London.
But personal preference collides with cold numbers.
Juventus must close the window with at least one significant sale to straighten their accounts. Other names on the market have not attracted concrete offers. That leaves Conceicao exposed, however reluctant everyone on the sporting side may be to lose him.
Mendes’ manoeuvre is being watched closely at Continassa. If he walks through the door with a proposal in the region of €40 million, Juventus’ directors will have to sit down and talk, whether they like it or not.
Spalletti plans with him, market moves without him
On the pitch, Spalletti cannot afford to drift with the rumours. For now, he is planning with Conceicao, not without him.
The winger is still expected to start Juventus’ Serie A opener against Frosinone. Spalletti needs his direct running, his width, his understanding of the system. The season begins now; the market ends later.
Behind the scenes, though, the tempo is different. Mendes is racing to complete Neto’s transfer to Al-Hilal. Once that deal is signed off, Chelsea’s push for Conceicao is set to accelerate.
That is the pivot point. Neto to Riyadh, then Conceicao to London?
If the anticipated €40 million bid lands in Turin, Juventus will be forced into a stark choice: keep a winger central to Spalletti’s plans, or cash in to satisfy the board’s financial demands as the window slams shut.
