Chelsea Sell Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the Spanish youngster to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete a permanent move to Leipzig, though voices in Germany are still stressing that some details need to be finalised before the transfer is officially signed off.

Guiu, a Spain Under-21 international, is understood to be valued at around £25m. That figure underlines the sharp rise in his stock since Chelsea picked him up from Barcelona, his boyhood club, for about £5m in 2024.

His time at Stamford Bridge has been brief but eventful. Guiu made 29 appearances for Chelsea and scored eight goals, six of them in last season’s Conference League campaign, which ended with the club lifting the trophy. On European nights he often looked most at home, his penalty-box instincts and direct movement giving Chelsea a different edge in attack.

The domestic picture was less smooth. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season brought just three matches and little rhythm. By the summer, the direction of travel was obvious: Guiu trained away from the main first-team group, with expectations growing inside the club that he would move on.

Now Leipzig, renowned for polishing young forwards, are poised to take the next step in his development, while Chelsea bank a sizeable profit after barely a year.

There has been movement elsewhere in the squad. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, a decision designed to free up an overseas loan slot. Chelsea plan to send him back out, with another temporary move — potentially within England — now on the cards.
