Chelsea's Emerging Attack: Palmer, Rogers, and Neto Shine

Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers walked off the pitch in midweek grinning, still arguing over who really owned the night. Both had come off the bench in the Carabao Cup, both had ripped the game away from a 2-0 deficit, and both knew they’d tilted it Chelsea’s way.

The award, though, went to Palmer.

Man of the Match.

Cue the friendly bickering in front of the cameras.

For Xabi Alonso, that argument is exactly what he wants to see.

Speaking before Chelsea’s Premier League trip to Hull City, the head coach made it clear he welcomes that edge between his two 24-year-old attackers.

“For me, it's good that they both feel entitled to this award,” Alonso said. “For sure, they are both enjoying themselves playing with the team, playing with each other.

“They enjoy when the other one makes good things for the team, and we were expecting that, but so happy that it is happening and that early days we have a good partnership there.

“As well with Joao [Pedro] linking with them, it's a strength that we have.”

A partnership years in the making

This chemistry hasn’t come out of nowhere. Palmer and Rogers have been orbiting each other for years, from Manchester City’s youth system to England’s international age groups. Chelsea didn’t just stumble upon their connection; they tracked it.

“Even before playing together, they were so connected,” Alonso explained. “We were following this connection for a few weeks before the transfer did happen, and Cole was very influential. He played an important role, Morgan as well, the club as well. We are happy that this has come to where it is right now.

“[Rogers] has adapted quite well, very quick. He's feeling great, he's enjoying his game, his football, his connection with the team.”

Cobham, right now, feels light. Confident. The new faces are bedding in, the old ones are responding, and the front line suddenly looks like it has layers: Palmer drifting between the lines, Rogers driving at defenders, Joao Pedro stitching it all together.

But Chelsea don’t get to live off one comeback in the cup.

Hull waiting to test Chelsea’s mood

Next up is Hull City, newly promoted but anything but timid. The Tigers have started fast, sitting a point above Chelsea in the table and playing with the belief of a side that hasn’t yet been told what it can’t do.

Their head coach, Sergej Jakirovic, even joked that the only way to stop Chelsea’s stars was “to kick them”. Behind the humour lies a warning: Hull intend to compete, not just survive.

Alonso isn’t underestimating them.

“We face tomorrow's game with the same respect we did last week against Arsenal,” he said. “Hull will be hard to beat. They have their weapons as well, they have the belief, the coach is doing a great job, so it's going to be hard and we'll have to be at our best to beat Hull.”

Respect, but no fear. Chelsea know that if Palmer and Rogers carry their midweek swagger into the league, Hull’s defenders are in for a long afternoon.

Neto commits to the project

As if the mood needed another lift, Chelsea locked down one of their most reliable performers. Pedro Neto has signed a new long-term deal, tying the Portuguese winger to the club until 2032.

Since arriving from Wolves, the 26-year-old has quietly become one of the pillars of this squad. Twenty-one goals, 19 assists, and a constant outlet down the flank: Neto has turned consistency into a trademark in west London.

Speaking to the club’s official channels, he made it clear he believes there is more to come.

“I have had some good moments here as a group and as an individual, and now I want to have more of those moments,” the Portugal international said. “I'm really excited because I think we can achieve a lot of things together.”
